Academic UIL is for any 7th or 8th grade student who is interested in representing Kerr Middle School in academic competition for our district. Requirements include being in 7th or 8th grade and be passing all classes. Students will need to sign the extracurricular code of conduct and show your coach your progress reports and report cards.
Participating in academic UIL is a good way to enhance school skills. It is also a good thing to put on a resume for college or National Honor Society. Middle School competition only goes through the district level. But when students get to high school, they can advance to state. College scholarships are available for those who place in UIL Academic Contests at the high school level.
Students interested in participating need to sign up through their English/LA teachers.
Kerr will be preparing teams for the following events on
- Number Sense and Mathematics
- Editorial Writing
- Science I and II
- Spelling and Dictionary Skills
- Impromptu Speaking
- Listening Skills
- Social Studies
