Quick Start: Find Your Best Path
Choosing the right school shouldn’t be confusing. Answer a few quick questions to discover which application you need and the opportunities available to you.
1. Do you live inside BISD attendance boundaries?*
Yes → Skip to the next question.
No → Skip to question 3 to learn about applying for an out-of-district transfer. BISD welcomes out-of-district families who want a high-performing district with strong academics, innovative programs, and a supportive community.

2. Are you interested in applying for a school of choice during the application window?*
Application Windows:
Middle schools of choice: January 22 at 8:00 a.m. to January 30 at 5:00 p.m.
Elementary schools of choice: February 9 at 8:00 a.m. to February 20 at 5:00 p.m. *Note: Kindergarten and pre-K parents, please see the Frequently Asked

- Elementary: Academy at Nola Dunn, Academy of the Arts at Bransom, Academy of Leadership & Technology at Mound, Academy of Sports and Wellness at Frazier, Norwood Environmental Science Academy, and STEAM Academy at Stribling. *Note: Kindergarten and pre-K parents, please see the Frequently Asked Questions to find the right fit for your child.
- Secondary: STEAM Middle School, Game Development Design School grades 6-8, Game Development Design School grades 9-12, and Burleson Collegiate High School.

Families who miss the School of Choice application window or who prefer a traditional campus still have options through the student transfer process.

3. Did you miss the school of choice application window, or are you interested in submitting a transfer application?*
No problem! You may submit a student transfer application to request enrollment at a school of choice or a traditional campus.
Both in-district and out-of-district families may request a transfer, based on campus availability.
Even if timing doesn’t line up, BISD gives families multiple pathways to join the school that inspires them most. In-district and out-of-district families may submit a transfer application for the following schools:
- Elementary: Academy at Nola Dunn, Academy of the Arts at Bransom, Academy of Leadership & Technology at Mound, Academy of Sports & Wellness at Frazier, Brock Elementary, Clinkscale Elementary, Hajek Elementary, Norwood Environmental Science Academy, STEAM Academy at Stribling, and Taylor Elementary.
- Secondary: Hughes Middle School, Kerr Middle School, Burleson High School, and Centennial High School.
